How to Repair Scratched Glass

A scratched auto glass, while functional, is still marred. Luckily, many scratches can be fixed as long as they are not too deep. As a rule of thumb, if the scratch is catching the tip of your fingernail, then it cannot be fixed. However, if the scratch is not deep, then you may be able to fix it yourself. Here are your options:

Metal polish Use clean and soft cloths to wipe down all the dust and debris from the glass pane. Make sure that you don’t use rough fabric as it can cause additional scratches on the glass. Once the area is clean and dry, dab some metal polish onto a soft cloth and gently rub into the scratch.

Clear nail polish Use a clean rag and window cleaner to clean the area around the scratch. Carefully apply a thin layer of clear nail polish into the scratch. Once the nail polish has dried, remove the excess with nail polish remover.

Homemade solution Make a paste of water, baking soda, and white toothpaste. Rub the paste into the scratch with a clean cloth that’s slightly damp. Once finished, wash the glass with a fresh water.

It is very important to mention that these methods should never be applied on windshield scratches. They are designed specifically for auto side glass. If you want to fix a scratched windshield, then you need to hire a professional glass repair service provider.
